Historical Campeche

What today is the city of Campeche, Mexico, capital of the Mexican state of the same name and situated on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, was founded as the Puerto de San Francisco de Campeche in the year 1540 by the Spanish conquerors who came to these shores under the command of Francisco de Montejo y León.

Port of Veracruz

La Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz: Veracruz was the first port of New Spain and was a major trade link for ships coming from Spain with colonists and returning there laden with gold and treasures. Attractions: the fort of San Juan de Ulúa, the music in the Portales around the city square, the excellent coffee grown in the region, the City Museum (Museo de la Ciudad) and the Venustiano Carranza lighthouse overlooking the port.
