The State of Veracruz is located on the Gulf of Mexico. The port of Veracruz, the capital city of Xalapa, the vanilla producing town of Papantla, the lake and falls at Catemaco and the ruins of Cempoala and El Tajin are some of the more popular destinations in the state.

Port of Veracruz

La Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz: Veracruz was the first port of New Spain and was a major trade link for ships coming from Spain with colonists and returning there laden with gold and treasures. Attractions: the fort of San Juan de Ulúa, the music in the Portales around the city square, the excellent coffee grown in the region, the City Museum (Museo de la Ciudad) and the Venustiano Carranza lighthouse overlooking the port.
