Chihuahua Overview

The northern Mexican state of Chihuahua is Mexico’s largest, and it lies in the rugged and arid northern desert area just south of the U.S. border. Principal cities and attractions in Chihuahua include the city of Chihuahua (state capital), the ruins of Paquime and pottery of Mata Ortiz in the Casas Grandes area, and trips on El Chepe railroad through the awesome Copper Canyon, territory of the Tarahumara (Raramuri) indians.

Mexican Independence Day

Independence Day in Mexico falls on September 16th and is one of the country’s main patriotic holidays, or Fiestas Patrias. It is preceded on the eve of the holiday by the Grito de Dolores.
