State of Morelos

A small but diverse state, Morelos offers colonial architecture and history, the archaeological sites of Xochicalco, Teopanzolco, El Tepozteco and Chalcatzingo, several reconstructed haciendas, many now turned into hotels and resorts and plenty of natural hot springs, lakes and recreational areas such as Tequesquitengo, Las Lagunas de Zempoala and Agua Hedionda in Cuautla.

Chalcatzingo, Morelos

The Chalcatzingo archaeological site is about half-way between the towns of Cuautla and Izucar de Morelos, and feature carvings that depict mythical and religious themes associated with agriculture and fertility.
