In 2005 actors Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, together with producer Pablo Cruz,  founded a traveling festival of documentaries with the aim of promoting the production, viewing and appreciation of documentary films in Mexico. Both Mexican and foreign documentary films and productions are included in each years´showings. The documentaries are brought to the screen at Cinepolis movie theaters in Mexico City as well as at more than 60 other theaters and venues across Mexico.

The festival events, in addition to the screening of the documentaries, also include the participation of filmmakers and film industry players and academics. The festival does not rate the films in any way, but it does award either a percentage of the gate or a set rental to those who people or entities holding the rights to documentaries that are screened during the course of the event.
