Baja California Sur

The state of Baja California Sur is located in the north-western region of Mexico on a peninsula bearing the same name. It is bordered to the north by the state of Baja California Norte, to the west and south by the Pacific Ocean, and to the east by the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California).

La Paz, which lies on Bahia La Paz in the Sea of Cortez, or Gulf of California as it is also known, is the state capital. La Paz and other destinations in this state are well known for their excellent sportfishing opportunities. Other of the main tourist destinations in Baja California Sur are San Jose del Cabo & Cabo San Lucas at the southern tip of the Baja peninsula, known collectively as Los Cabos, and proudly called the Marlin capital of the world, and Todos Santos up the west coast of the peninsula from Los Cabos.

In addition to the fishing, the state offers great activities including snorkeling & diving, hiking, surfing and whale watching. Tours can be taken to the region’s colonial missions and to locales with some excellent, ancient cave and rock paintings.
