Troncones Beach, Municipality of La Union, Guerrero

Troncones Beach is a relatively new community located 31 kms, or about one-half hours’ drive, to the north of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo along Federal Highway 200 which follows the Pacific coast. The settling of this community began in the 1970′s and its growth plodded slowly through the 1980′s and early 1990′s before exploding into its present state.

Where it previously was a 3-mile stretch of largely uninhabited beach with a simple, dusty, graveled road running in from the highway, Troncones has now evolved into a burgeoning resort for surfers and a haven for beach-lovers and people wanting to pamper themselves during their holidays with spa and yoga retreats, private oceanfront relaxation and the personalized services of the many bed-and-breakfasts, small inns and vacation rentals available here today.

Troncones is for those who like snuggle into a shaded hammock under a tree with a favorite book, or for those who want to walk the sands in search of seashells and tide pools, or watch the myriads of birds that frequent the area. Troncones is for you if you want to boogie-board, mountain-bike, or just lay out in the sun and enjoy fresh seafood in a comfortable but uncomplicated atmosphere. Recreation is of the healthy, spontaneous and natural kind. You won’t find discos or dance-clubs here, and no cinemas. You might find a TV with a movie or some sports being aired, you’ll definitely be able to search out a relaxing massage or yoga class, but the golf courses and more structured water sports such as para-sailing and water skiing are only to be had in nearby Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo.

Beside the smaller beachfront restaurants offering fresh local fish, seafood and Mexican dishes, Troncones now offers a number of great restaurants with international fare, and more are opening their doors as the community continues to grow at an incredible rate. Some of the more established restaurants and dining spots include the Burro Borracho, the restaurant at the Inn at Manzanillo Bay, the Cocina del Sol at Hacienda Eden and the poolside drinks and snacks at Tropic of Cancer, but several more dining options are currently available at many of the hotels and inns along this tremendously attractive stretch of the Pacific.

Troncones now also has its own taxi service that simplifies getting around the community and permits easy trips into town, although many people – particularly the surfers – prefer to get a rental car to give them more freedom of movement. The majority of the lodging providers offer phone and broadband internet services.
