Numerous surf spots are to be found along the almost 500 km extension of the Pacific Coast of the State of Guerrero, Mexico, from beaches close to Ixtapa Zihuatanejo and Acapulco to remote breaks accessible via narrow and bumpy side roads.

Acapulco Area

Playa Bonfil – Acapulco’s most widely known surf spot – a beach break with year-round possibilities. Many of the Guerrero Surfing Association sporting events are held at Playa Bonfil.

Breaks in Ixtapa & Zihuatanejo

Playa Las Gatas – when the swell is just right, the waves off the Las Gatas rocky point can be perfect for a good ride – though being so close to town, it can get crowded

Playa Madera – though totally within Zihuatanejo Bay, Playa Madera can put up some surf during the summer season – another convenient spot

Playa Escolleras, Ixtapa – right on Ixtapa’s main beach, Playa el Palmar, next to the rock jetty

North of Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo

Playa Linda – Local rivermouth/point at the northern end of Ixtapa’s 2nd hotel zone

Troncones Beach – 3 miles of beach and point breaks only 1/2 and hour north of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo

Playa Manzanillo – Half Moon bay with hollow lefts, located at the northern end of Troncones Beach. Caution: rocks and urchins.

Playa La Saladita – The best longboard wave ever, north of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo

South of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo

Juluchuca, Loma Bonita and La Barrita – Beach breaks located near Petatlan to the south of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.
