1 out of 5 stars It's not one, but sheesh, they can't even spell it!   March 23, 2008

This is NOT a Molcajete and definitely NOT Talavera, but it is shaped like a typical salsa bowl you see on tables in most restaurants in Mexico.
Some are made of lava rock and if they are much larger and have a stone pestle, then yes, it would be a molcajete, which are used as a mortar and pestle.

You could use these to serve salsas, they're usually called salseras. You can find them in plastic in the grocery stores for 50 cents or so. Weird colors or I might have bought some because I didn't bring any back with me when I moved back to the US. I do have a 30 pound molcajete, though, lol

4 out of 5 stars Cute bowl with funny little legs!   December 29, 2007

The color and design attracted me to these bowls. I now own 3! I have the red, green and yellow colors. I have no idea what I'm going to do with them... they would be great to hold condiments or salsas in. My only problem is with the red color; mine is more of an orangey rusty red color, rather than the vibrant red in the photo. It's not a bad color, but I was hoping more for the red in the picture. Other than that, these crazy little bowls are great!

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful Chantal quality, but small!   June 8, 2007

I admit it --- I am a Chantal groupie. I love the mugs and bowls, so when I saw this new design I couldn't wait to order one (curry yellow is my favorite). It arrived today and I was surprised to see how small it is! I didn't pay attention to the description that says 6 ounces, apparently ---- all I noticed was the word BOWL. It is the size of a very small candy dish, which is just what I will use it for. It is so beautiful, but I wish it had been an actual bowl. It must be designed for sauces and dips? So, the small size is the only reason for the rating. The quality is certainly 5.
